This Weekend Ponderplace.com Will Be Migrating (Updated)
Nov 8th, 2007 by Stephen
Hey, so remember when i mentioned back when that we here at ponderplace.com would be moving?
Well it didn’t happen. For whatever reason I feel very compelled to use this weekend and migrate ponderplace.com to the new hosting.
Mainly I’m afraid something will break. Ponderplace.com uses quite a few tweaks and tricks to get it to do what you see. Being that I’m not exactly well versed in website design/coding its a reasonable fear.
Cons
- It could break
- It will probably look ugly for a while
- I may not be able to get it back to the way it is now
- This will likely consume my entire weekend if not more
Pros
- I can finally start adding new features to the site
- I can remove features that have not worked out
- We will have a tagging system…
- …which means categories will actually make sense
- It’ll be newer and better(er)
- New and better are awesome
- More robust server may actually handle the digg effect (though not likely, I’m newb)
- No longer will children have to go hungry
It’s a pretty compelling list to say the least.
I started work on this tonight at around 7:00pm. I then promptly started reading digg.com and other various news sites. Which leads me to now, 8:53pm and I’ve still not accomplished anything in the move. But I am making this post. Yeay.
Anyway the gist of this message is that there may not be a post for tomorrow (Friday). And there may not even be a functional ponderplace.com. We’ll see!
*Update 11/9/2007 @ 6:59pm:
Wow, the migration has been completed. :D Things went a lot more smoothly than I’d anticipated. I started working on this at around 8:00am today (aside from the prep work I did yesterday). And just now made the last change. Granted, I took a break and watched an episode of My Name Is Earl. I also took a somewhat leisurely lunch break, as well as a half hour nap at around 4:00pm. Still 11-hours and we are back with no significant problems? Excellent.
This only means now I can apply all these updates I’ve been holding off on, quite a few improvements are on their way. See you all next week!

one bug that still does not have a resolution is that once you subscribe to a comment, it wont allow you to open the panel which provides an unsubscribe link…
