Youth As An Addiction

Youth. I’d say the single most difficult thing to give up is youth (…ism?).
Some pointed examples.
The elderly are clinging to that last bit of life they have. Using drugs and whatnot to eek along. Their bodies are falling apart, and proving increasingly difficult to maintain and work with.
My next example is a little more obscure.
Parents who in some ways still act like kids.
See, when I was a kid (and I still am a kid, but I’m trying to convey a passage of time which is great and long since past) I had this friend. This friend had parents.
In my associations with my friend I was exposed to much conversation between friend and said parents.
Being that I had no political sway with them, I often found myself silently sitting to the side observing these encounters.
In my observances, the item that stood out most to me was the method of parenting employed by my friend’s parents.
The tactics were oddly familiar with those I expect to encounter in a Junior High setting. Not particularly that it be a school setting, but more importantly the age group.
The life lesson to be learned here is that you may not be nearly as grown up as you once (before reading this) thought.
And upon realizing this, it is only appropriate that you assess who you are and how you manage your relationship both with those peers around you, as well as any individuals that you may have stewardship over.
