Transcending Afterlife
Jun 11th, 2007 by Stephen

Time to theororize a bit.
For this theororization session we need to set some grounds of speculation. First we are assuming that there is indeed an afterlife. This afterlife is occupied by the spiritual representatives of each character. Characters being people, animals, trees … and willow wisps. Some people say that tree’s cry when you cut them; so we’ll let them be on that list.
With that assumption in mind.
My thoughts led me to wonder. What is it like for an individual to pass from this existence (world) onto the next while high?
Some argue that being high is to elevate ones self into a spiritual euphoria. Science and logic contradicts this. Pointing out that the effect of drugs is a chemical reaction within the body; only altering the user’s perception of the world around them.
What is it like for a person to go from a perceived spiritual state, into an actual spiritual state? Removed from physical body?
Yes I know… I’ll give you a moment.
…
We don’t have any facts (on the spiritual world) to draw conclusions. So we will have to run on speculation here on out.
Alright. So we can assume it’s disappointing. Well, maybe not. That’s what I would initially think. But let’s look more closely at this.
When a person is high, depending on the drug, they are in a state of euphoria. Which state is void of worries, concerns, stress, etc, all the basic building blocks of life as we know it.
I’m going to go ahead and mentally simulate above mentioned transition.
…
…aaand, ok. So basically when you die while high. You’re a little confused, but the overall feeling is “oh balls”. Because your sitting there looking at your body. And your like “hey that’s me!”. This would be the confusing part. Am I in a dream? Have I been cloned? Then there is the “oh wait no, I’m bleeding out of a hole in my head. I must be dead” (assuming that was the cause of your death). Which is where the “oh balls” part comes in.
That’s what I think might happen, after having simulated the experience. Initially I thought, well maybe its like, your high, feeling good etc. Then suddenly your not, and you’re angry at someone, whomever it is that killed your high. And you’re looking around to find this person when you run into your body. Which is not moving because it is no longer occupied. Its occupant is standing there watching its former self.
I would be curious to know what reading this article is like while high. I do not encourage it, but please do let me know if you happen to be high. Also, I do not encourage dying while reading while high … yet my curiosity brings me to ask that if you do happen to be reading this, while high, and you also happen to die … please do everything you can to let us still living know what its like. You can use the comments below for these notes. Or just visit me in a dream. But do so in a pleasant manner, please.

While I cannot comment on being high and dying, I have listened to a number of interviews of people that have had NDE’s or OBE’s (near death experiance and out of body experience). The experiences are remarkably similar. This book is from the perspective of a psychiatrist.

I highly recommend it.
